Call Con Edison before the due date. Ask about these options, and see our guide to help paying utility bills:

  • Payment plans: spread an overdue balance over several payments.
  • Budget Billing: levels out your bill across the year so winter and summer peaks are less of a shock.
  • Energy Affordability Program (EAP): a monthly bill discount for income-eligible households. Con Edison lists up to $187 per bill cycle.
  • Enhanced Energy Assistance Program (EEAP): help of up to $168 a month, and you apply at coned.nyeeap.com/program. Enrollment lasts 18 months.
  • Anywhere in New York: dial 2-1-1 to find local assistance.

Amounts, dates and eligibility change, so check Con Edison before you apply.

Avoid payment scams

Con Edison does not accept gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers or cash apps such as Venmo, Zelle or PayPal. If someone calls, texts or emails that your power will be shut off today unless you pay one of those ways, it is a scam. Hang up and call Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633 to check your account. Read more in our guide to third-party bill pay sites before you use any service that is not Con Edison itself.
